Prince

"Chaos and Disorder" is the eighteenth studio album by Prince, released on July 9, 1996, under Warner Bros. Records. The album's reception was modest, reaching number 26 in the United States and number 14 in the United Kingdom, marking Prince's lowest performance with a new material album since his debut. Prince notably refrained from promoting the album as he continued his legal battle against Warner Bros., releasing it primarily to fulfill contractual obligations. The album's inlay sleeve included a message stating it was originally intended for private use only and marked Prince's final original material recorded for Warner Bros. Records under his love symbol moniker. Despite its subdued release, the single "Dinner with Delores," released only in the UK, managed to chart in the Top 40, albeit less prominently compared to Prince's earlier hits. "Chaos and Disorder" was out of print for years but was digitally re-released on Tidal in 2016 and on iTunes in 2018. It saw a physical reissue on CD and vinyl in September 2019. The album's cover art, depicting a bloody hypodermic needle with a dollar bill and a human heart in a toilet bowl, reflected its provocative and rebellious nature, resonating with Prince's ongoing artistic and legal challenges during that period.
