Lynyrd Skynyrd

"Twenty" is the ninth studio album by American rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, released in 1997. The title commemorates the 20th anniversary of the tragic plane crash that claimed the lives of original lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, and backup singer Cassie Gaines. For this album, Lynyrd Skynyrd enlisted two Southern rock veterans, Rickey Medlocke and Hughie Thomasson, to join the band. Medlocke, a former drummer for Lynyrd Skynyrd who later founded Blackfoot, and Thomasson, of the Outlaws, brought their own unique styles and talents to the group. One of the standout tracks on "Twenty" is "Travelin' Man," a reimagined version of a song originally featured on the band's 1976 live album, "One More from the Road." Utilizing modern technology, Lynyrd Skynyrd incorporated original vocalist Ronnie Van Zant's recorded vocals into the track, creating a poignant duet between Johnny and Ronnie. The album cover depicts a fictional illustration of Monument Valley on the Navajo reservation, adding a visually striking element to the release. "Twenty" pays homage to Lynyrd Skynyrd's rich legacy while also showcasing their ability to evolve and innovate within the Southern rock genre.
