"Lick" is the third studio album by American alternative rock band The Lemonheads. Released in 1989, the critically and commercially acclaimed album was the group's last recording with founding member and co-driver Ben Deily, who left the band shortly after the album's release. Frontman Evan Dando was to have more influence over the band's direction henceforth.
"Lick" retains its signature Punk roots but begins to blend it with the blend of Punk-Pop that would become their trademark in later albums. Despite poor sales initially, the album would later garner recognition and appreciate years after release.
One of the notable tracks from the album is a cover of "Luka," originally by Suzanne Vega. Moreover, the record contains fan-favorite tracks like "Mallo Cup" and "Circle of One".
However, the album was not released without controversy. The original cover art, which featured an image of a child giving the middle finger, was eventually replaced by a photo of three lollipops due to the negative feedback.
Overall, "Lick" represents a crucial phase in the evolution of The Lemonheads, from a loud, punk-influenced outfit to a more melodic, alternative rock band.
