"Above" is the debut and only studio album by the American rock supergroup Mad Season, released in 1995. The band comprised members of prominent grunge bands, including Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, and Screaming Trees. The album's sound is characterized by its fusion of grunge, blues, and alternative rock elements, featuring heavy guitar riffs, emotive vocals, and introspective lyrics. Lyrically, the album explores themes of addiction, depression, and existential angst, reflecting the personal struggles of its members. Despite receiving critical acclaim for its raw and authentic sound, "Above" achieved moderate commercial success upon its release. However, it has since garnered a cult following and is considered a classic of the grunge era. Tragically, Mad Season disbanded shortly after the album's release due to the death of its primary lyricist and vocalist, Layne Staley of Alice in Chains, in 2002.
