"The Animals on Tour" is the second American studio album by the British rock band, The Animals. The album was released in February 1965 in line with their first US tour. Despite the name, the album is not a live album but an assortment of new studio recordings and previously released material. This was to give their fans a new album while they were touring America.
The album comprises primarily of rhythm and blues (R&B) tracks and includes covers of famous songs by Bob Dylan, Sam Cooke, and Ray Charles. However, it does also feature two original tracks penned by the band members themselves; ‘I'm Mad Again' by John Lee Hooker, and ‘Worried Life Blues' by Big Maceo Merriweather.
The band consisted of five members including Eric Burdon (vocals), Alan Price (keyboard), Hilton Valentine (guitar), Chas Chandler (bass), and John Steel (drums). The five-piece band was known for their gritty, bluesy sound and deep-voiced frontman Eric Burdon.
"The Animals on Tour" reached a peak position of 99 on the US Billboard 200.
This album showcased the Animals' raw, blues-driven sound and marked an important point in the band's career, as they made their mark on American soil.
