Barbra Streisand

"Emotion" is the twenty-third studio album by American singer Barbra Streisand, released in October 1984 by Columbia Records. This marked her first studio release in four years, following the success of Guilty, which remains her highest-selling album globally. The album featured three singles, none of which reached the top forty on the Billboard Hot 100. It peaked at number 19 on the US Billboard 200 and was certified Platinum in the US and Gold in the UK. Recorded across eleven studios in Los Angeles and two in New York, Emotion involved multiple producers and composers. The lead single, "Left in the Dark," produced by Jim Steinman, peaked at #50 on the Billboard Hot 100. The second single, "Make No Mistake, He's Mine," a duet with Kim Carnes, reached #8 on the Adult Contemporary chart and #51 on the Hot 100. The title track, "Emotion," featured background vocals by the Pointer Sisters and was released as an extended 12" remix. An instrumental version of "Here We Are At Last" was included in the 1987 film Nuts. The video for "Left in the Dark" featured Kris Kristofferson, her co-star from A Star Is Born. The video for "Emotion," which received some airplay on MTV, included cameos from Roger Daltrey and Mikhail Baryshnikov. In her 2023 memoir, My Name Is Barbra, Streisand described Emotion as a "hodgepodge" and expressed a desire to avoid making a similar pop record in the future.
