Sheryl Crow

"Wildflower" is the fifth studio album by American singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow, released in September 2005. Despite the varying critical responses, the album garnered Crow two Grammy Award nominations: for Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for the first single titled "Good Is Good." The album brings a different sound compared to Crow's previous works, incorporating more elements of orchestral music and softer pop compared to the rock roots that characterized her earlier career. Despite having fewer rock tracks, it managed to retain the autobiographical and observational lyric-writing style that she's known for. The album was conceived after Crow's engagement to Lance Armstrong. Many of the songs' lyrics talk about her relationship and her then-impending marriage. Songs such as "Always on Your Side" and "Where Has All the Love Gone" showcase the introspective and thoughtful narrative, complemented by soothing and well-complementing instrumentals. Over the years, "Wildflower" has been recognized as a testament to Crow's artistic versatility, given its departure from her traditional rock n roll style, cleverly weaving in a much softer and refined sound palate.
