"Platinum Collection" is a career-spanning compilation album by the British rock band Genesis. It was released on November 29, 2004, in the UK and on September 13, 2005, in the US. This compilation was released alongside The Video Show DVD in both countries.
The album is spread across three CDs, offering a comprehensive overview of Genesis' long career. It covers their early years with Peter Gabriel as the lead singer and Anthony Phillips and Steve Hackett on guitar, then transitions to their later era with Phil Collins taking over as lead singer (after Hackett's departure), and finishes with tracks from the period when Ray Wilson was the lead vocalist. The track listing is mostly arranged in reverse chronological order, with the exception of the final track, "Calling All Stations" from the 1997 album of the same name, which is placed at the end of the first disc. Many of the tracks were newly remixed by the band's longtime collaborator, Nick Davis.
The Platinum Collection includes at least one song from each of the band's studio albums, with the exception of their 1969 debut From Genesis to Revelation. Spanning from 1970's Trespass to Calling All Stations, the compilation stands as the most extensive Genesis retrospective available. Upon its release, it peaked at No. 21 in the UK and No. 100 in the US.
The album's cover art features images from several of Genesis' iconic albums, including We Can't Dance (1991), Nursery Cryme (1971), A Trick of the Tail (1976), Foxtrot (1972), Duke (1980), and Invisible Touch (1986).
Interestingly, a separate Platinum Collection album, also consisting of three CDs, was released earlier in 2004. This version was a compilation of Phil Collins' solo career.
