Johnny Marr

"Boomslang" is the debut album of Johnny Marr + The Healers, a band formed by the renowned musician Johnny Marr, who is best known for being the guitarist and co-songwriter of The Smiths. Released in February 2003, "Boomslang" showcases Marr in a new role as the main vocalist for the first time in his career. This album is generally classified under the genre of alternative rock, featuring a distinct blend of indie rock and new wave sounds. In developing "Boomslang", Marr collaborated with various artists, including Ringo Starr's son, Zak Starkey, on drums and Alonza Bevan, from the band Kula Shaker, on bass. The album was met with mixed to positive reviews from the critics. Several tracks like "Down On The Corner", "Bangin' On", and "Last Ride" have been singled out for praise. While Johnny Marr's songwriting and guitar work were particularly highlighted, some critics did take note of his vocal capabilities requiring a bit more depth and character. Despite the mixed reception, "Boomslang" represented a significant step in Marr's career, allowing him to transition from iconic guitarist to a multifaceted artist with this release. Though it would remain the only album from Johnny Marr + The Healers, the band continued to serve as Marr's backing band for most live performances. Additionally, his experiences with this project paved the way for his later solo career, further cementing his status as a legendary figure in the music scene.
