The Yardbirds

"Live Yardbirds: Featuring Jimmy Page" is a live album by the English rock group the Yardbirds, recorded at the Anderson Theatre in New York City on March 30, 1968. At the time, the band featured Jimmy Page on lead guitar, who had been with them since October 1966. The album captures the Yardbirds performing several of their well-known songs, often with extended instrumental solos. A standout track is "I'm Confused," which was based on Jake Holmes' "Dazed and Confused." Jimmy Page re-recorded a version of this song with Led Zeppelin for their debut album later in 1968, with some lyrical changes. Initially, the Yardbirds were unhappy with the recordings and opposed their release. However, after Jimmy Page achieved fame with Led Zeppelin, Epic Records issued the album in September 1971. Legal action from Page led to the album being withdrawn from distribution. Over the years, there were several attempts to release the album again. In 2017, Jimmy Page rediscovered the concert tapes in his personal archive and took the opportunity to remix the recordings. These remixed tracks, along with demo recordings from the same period, were finally released in November 2017 as part of the "Yardbirds '68" album. This release provided fans with a fresh perspective on the Yardbirds' live performances during a transitional period in their history, showcasing Jimmy Page's evolving guitar style before his monumental success with Led Zeppelin.
