Supertramp

"Supertramp" is the self-titled debut album by the English rock band Supertramp, released in July 1970. Under the direction of their first manager, Sam, a Dutch millionaire, the band recorded their debut album in the Netherlands at the reputed Super Bear Studios. The original lineup of the band on this album included Richard Palmer (guitars, vocals, lyrics), Roger Hodgson (bass guitar, lead vocals, lyrics), Rick Davies (keyboards, vocals), and Roberts (percussion). Supertramp is recorded in the progressive rock genre, with significant influence from 1970s British rock. The album was not initially a commercial success and failed to yield any hit singles, although it did enjoy some success in the Netherlands, where Davies and Hodgson spent some time writing songs for the album. Despite its initial luke-warm reception, in retrospect it is often regarded as a promisingly cohesive and innovative debut. Some of the notable songs from the album are "Surely," "It’s a Long Road," and "Words Unspoken." Upon release, the public were largely unresponsive, and the lack of commercial success led to the departure of Richard Palmer and Keith Baker after the album's release. Although the debut didn't make a significant mark in the music industry at the time, the band Supertramp went on to achieve great worldwide success with later albums.
