Buzzcocks

"Singles Going Steady" is a compilation album by the English punk rock band Buzzcocks, released on September 25, 1979, by I.R.S. Records in the United States. This collection compiles the band's early singles and B-sides, showcasing their energetic sound and lyrical wit. It features iconic tracks such as "Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've)" and "What Do I Get?" The album is celebrated for its influence on punk and pop music, encapsulating the raw spirit of the late 1970s punk scene. Its release helped solidify Buzzcocks' legacy as one of the genre's defining acts. Singles Going Steady was the first album by Buzzcocks to be released in North America, serving as an introduction to the band for American audiences alongside a U.S. tour. The album's original release featured eight of their UK singles from 1977 to 1979 on the first side, arranged chronologically, while the second side included their corresponding B-sides. After the band's breakup in early 1981, Singles Going Steady saw a delayed release in the UK on November 16, 1981, as a 'greatest hits' album, though it did not chart there either. In 2001, the album was reissued in an expanded format on CD, adding eight tracks that included the A-sides and B-sides of their singles released between the original album and the band's dissolution. This reissue further solidified its status as a key compilation in the band's discography, highlighting their influence on punk and pop music.
