The Gun Club

"Death Party" is a unique EP by the American rock band The Gun Club, released in 1983. It stands out as the only official release featuring the lineup consisting of Jim Duckworth and Dee Pop, a configuration that lasted for approximately eight months. The EP came about unexpectedly, as it filled a recording session slot initially intended for Tex & the Horseheads, another band Jeffrey Lee Pierce had assembled around his girlfriend Linda/Texacala Jones. With the session available, The Gun Club seized the opportunity, enlisting bassist Jimmy Joe Uliana, a friend of Dee Pop's, to join them. Despite having Patricia Morrison as their bassist at the time, she didn't participate due to the impromptu nature of the recording session. Chris Stein took on the role of producer for "Death Party," although his involvement came after much of the recording had been completed. This spontaneous creation process adds to the EP's allure, showcasing The Gun Club's ability to adapt and produce captivating music on the fly.
