The Gun Club

"Miami" is the second studio album by American rock band The Gun Club, released in 1982 on Animal Records, a label founded by Chris Stein of Blondie, who also produced the album. The album features backing vocals by Debbie Harry under the pseudonym "D.H. Laurence Jr." Notably, the cover art does not include bassist Rob Ritter, who had left the band prior to the album's release. Before departing, Ritter taught his bass lines to Patricia Morrison, his replacement and former bandmate from The Bags. The song "Mother of Earth" from Miami caught the attention of Billy Idol, who later admitted that his hit "White Wedding" was influenced by it. The album has also been recognized by other artists, with alt-country band The Sadies covering "Mother of Earth" on their 2001 album Tremendous Efforts, and Swedish band bob hund adapting it into Swedish as “Mamma din jord” on their 2019 album 0-100. Miami remains a significant release in The Gun Club's discography, showcasing their blend of punk, blues, and rock influences.
