"Splinter" is the seventh studio album by American punk rock band, The Offspring. It was released on December 9, 2003, through Columbia Records. The album marks a shift from their previous sound and incorporated elements of pop punk and alternative rock. Comprising 12 tracks, the album includes popular songs such as "Hit That" and "(Can't Get My) Head Around You."
"Splinter" resonated well with fans and critics alike. It peaked at number 30 on the Billboard 200 and received Gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). In terms of composition, the album maintains its punk roots with some tracks displaying an added mix of rock, ska, and punk satires.
The production of "Splinter" also saw multiple changes with veteran drummer Ron Welty leaving the group mid-way through the album's production. Drummer Josh Freese stepped in to record the drums for the album, while Atom Willard was announced to tour as the band's official drummer.
Despite facing challenges, the "Splinter" album holds a strong position in The Offspring's discography, preserving the band's unique sound while also pushing the group's artistic boundaries.
