"Metallic K.O." captures the raw energy and chaos of a live performance by American hard rock band The Stooges. Originally presented as a purported recording of their final show in Detroit on February 9, 1974, the album showcases the band amidst a backdrop of audience hostility, with Iggy Pop's provocative antics drawing a barrage of projectiles from the crowd.
However, subsequent investigation and the release of "Metallic 2X K.O." in May 1988 shed new light on the album's origins. It was revealed that the original release combined segments from two different performances at the Michigan Palace, blending the last half of the February 9, 1974 show with the first half of an earlier performance from October 6, 1973. The expanded "2X K.O." version offers the full sets from both dates, providing a more comprehensive view of The Stooges' live experience.
In 1998, the album underwent another re-release, maintaining the original title but reversing the show order, extending track lengths, and offering even more complete set-lists. "Metallic K.O." remains a testament to The Stooges' unbridled intensity and enduring influence in the realm of hard rock music.
