"The Weirdness" is the fourth studio album by American proto-punk band The Stooges. Released in 2007, it was the first record by the band in thirty-four years, following their last album "Raw Power" in 1973. "The Weirdness" is also the final album featuring guitarist Ron Asheton, who passed away in 2009. This album was produced by Steve Albini, a renowned record producer, songwriter and musician.
The band lineup for this album included Iggy Pop (vocals), Ron Asheton (guitar), Scott Asheton (drums), and Mike Watt (bass), along with Fun House-era saxophonist Steve Mackay. The record was not notably well-received by critics, with many pointing out that it didn't live up to the band's three 1970s albums. However, "The Weirdness" holds historical significance for fans as the group's reunion album.
The album has 16 tracks, including "Trollin'", "ATM", "You Can't Have Friends" and "The End of Christianity". Despite the long hiatus, "The Weirdness" continued The Stooges' reputation for heavy, raw sound, blurring the lines between punk, heavy metal, and noise rock. The album's lyrics touch on a variety of themes, flavored by Iggy Pop's characteristic intensity, humor, and edginess.
