Soft Cell

"The Singles" is a compilation album by Soft Cell, an English synth-pop duo best known for their blend of soulful, dance-oriented pop music with avant-garde electronic beats. Released in 1986, the album features various top-charting singles produced by the duo during their active years. The band, made up of members Marc Almond and David Ball, initially gained massive international success with their cover of "Tainted Love," which ranks among their most popular track listings on this record. The album features several other notable hits, such as "Bedsitter," "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye," and "Torch." The duo's reputation for delivering moody, evocative lyrics over innovative synth backing tracks is succinctly summed up in this collection. Soft Cell is credited with pioneering the new wave era of synth-pop in the early 1980s. Their genre-blurring sound fused together elements of pop, electronic, new wave and soul, all encapsulated in "The Singles" album. Unfortunately, Soft Cell disbanded in 1984, a couple of years before this album was released. However, their music, as encapsulated in this compilation album, continues to be influential and appreciated by fans worldwide.
