"The Rising" is the twelfth studio album by American singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen, released on July 30, 2002, by Columbia Records. The album is largely inspired by Springsteen's reflections on the September 11 attacks, which occurred the previous year.
The Rising was both a critical and commercial success, marking Springsteen's first album to top the US Billboard 200 since Tunnel of Love in 1987. The album was praised as a triumphant return to form for Springsteen and earned him two Grammy Awards. It also signified the beginning of a successful collaboration with producer Brendan O'Brien.
The release of The Rising came seven years after The Ghost of Tom Joad 1995, marking the longest gap between Springsteen's studio albums at the time. It was also his first album in nearly two decades with the E Street Band, with whom he had recently completed a highly successful reunion tour.
