"Song of the Bailing Man" is an album released by American rock band Pere Ubu in 1982 under the label Rough Trade. This album is the last one to feature Mayo Thompson, the founder of Red Krayola, as the guitarist. With a track list of ten songs, "Song of the Bailing Man" was produced by Adam Kidron and it packs a concoction of artistic elements as well as a variety of offbeat rhythms.
Subsequent to the release of this album, Pere Ubu disbanded for several years. The more experimental elements and eccentric style of this album presented a marked departure from the conventional sound that was prevailing at the time. The influence of European culture was significantly evident in this creation as David Thomas, the lead singer, was living in England during the making of the album. Despite having garnered mixed critics' reviews upon its release, this album is now seen as a significant part of Pere Ubu's discography, as well as an influential work in the post-punk era due to its capacity to push the boundaries of standard musical structures and genres.
