Public Image Ltd

"Album" is the fifth studio album by British rock band Public Image Ltd, released in 1986. Despite having band's name, the album is largely a solo effort by the band's frontman John Lydon who was the only remaining original member by the time of the album's recording. Lydon collaborated with a lot of session musicians such as Steve Vai, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Ginger Baker for the album, marking an experimental shift towards a more commercial sound compared to their previous works. Notably, the album sleeve itself is a generic default design, with the word "album" replacing any imagery in an attempt to focus on the music itself rather than the persona of the band. The album featured the single "Rise", which became one of their biggest hits, charting at number 11 in the UK. Additionally, the album was a commercial success, peaking at number 14 in the UK Albums Chart. It showcased a diverse musical palette including hard rock, pop and dance, with lyrics reflecting Lydon's views on issues ranging from apartheid to abusive relationships.
