"Ripples" is the seventh studio album by British singer Ian Brown, known as the lead vocalist of the alternative rock band The Stone Roses. It was released on 1 February 2019 through the label Virgin EMI. Notably, Ian Brown took the reins of the album's production and wrote the majority of the tracks himself, only except for three songs.
Distinctively, "Ripples" carries a slightly different tone and mood from his former albums, and features covers of Barrington Levy's "Black Roses" and Mikey Dread's "Break Down the Walls." Plus, he involved his sons who played several instruments and even co-wrote a song, further making the album a family collaboration. Critics praised the album for its experimental and eclectic style that ranges from Britpop to dub, although some argued that the lyrics left something more to be desired. Overall, "Ripples" is an album drenched in its melancholic tone, bridging the contemporary world with the sounds of yesteryears.
