"Renegades" is the fourth studio album by American rock band Rage Against the Machine. Released on December 5, 2000, the album consists of covers of songs by various artists, such as Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Minor Threat, Eric B. & Rakim, EPMD, MC5, The Rolling Stones, Cypress Hill, and Devo among others.
This album was the last for Rage Against the Machine before their breakup in October 2000, and was also the band's only full-length album not to feature the band's traditional lineup, as drummer Brad Wilk was replaced by Brendan O'Brien due to the former suffering from a herniated disc in his back.
The album was released about two months after vocalist Zach de la Rocha's exit from the band, thus making it the last album to feature the original vocalist. "Renegades" peaked at number fourteen on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified Platinum by RIAA. The album's artwork includes modified versions of notable political images.
Upon release, "Renegades" was met with mixed reviews, with some critics criticising the songs' selection while others praised the raw energy and reinterpretation of the material. Over the years, though, the album has been reassessed and now enjoys a more favourable reception.
