"Nativity in Black: A Tribute to Black Sabbath" is a series of two tribute albums released in 1994 and 2000, featuring various heavy metal groups covering Black Sabbath songs. The tracks on these albums focus exclusively on material from the band's 1970s era with vocalist Ozzy Osbourne. The title plays on a common but incorrect assumption about the Black Sabbath song "N.I.B."
One notable collaboration is by Bullring Brummies, which includes Black Sabbath founding members Geezer Butler and Bill Ward, along with vocalist Rob Halford and guitarists Scott "Wino" Weinrich and Brian Tilse. Their cover of "The Wizard" is the only official recording of this group, created specifically for the album.
Faith No More's live version of "War Pigs" appeared on their live album, Live at the Brixton Academy. The track "Supernaut" by 1000 Homo DJs was initially released as a 12" single in 1990.
Pantera had initially planned to contribute their version of "Planet Caravan" to the first album but it was ultimately excluded, later appearing on their 1994 release Far Beyond Driven. Biohazard also featured in a music video for "After Forever," directed by Parris Mayhew and produced by Drew Stone.
The second album was certified Gold by the RIAA on December 4, 2000. Bob Chiappardi served as the executive producer for the project. Megadeth's cover of "Paranoid" received a Grammy nomination in 1995 for 'Best Metal Performance.'
