Garbage

"No Gods No Masters" is the seventh studio album by American rock band Garbage. It was released on June 11, 2021, through the band's own label Stunvolume. The album was produced by the band members themselves and Billy Bush, marking their first album since 2001's "Beautiful Garbage" to not have Butch Vig as the sole producer. The album is noted for its politically and socially charged lyrics, discussing topics such as religion, racism, and sexism. "No Gods No Masters" received critical acclaim upon its release, and has been lauded for its distinct sound and social commentary, making use of a mix of alternative rock, electro-pop, and synth-pop. The album's title track, "No Gods No Masters", was released as the lead single with the announcement of the album. "The Men Who Rule the World" and "Wolves" were also released as promotional singles. The album marked a new direction for Garbage, with expansive electro-rock soundscapes and poignant lyricism against systemic injustices. Shirley Manson, the lead singer, shared that this work was their response to a rapidly changing world, and that they were inspired by standing up against injustice and wanting to infuse their music with a sense of hope. Multiple songs on the album have feminist undertones, critiquing the imbalance of power in society.
