Tame Impala

"Currents" is the third studio album by Australian musical project Tame Impala, released on July 17, 2015, through Modular Recordings in Australia, Interscope Records in the United States, Fiction Records in the United Kingdom, and Caroline International in other regions. This album marks a significant departure from the psychedelic rock sound of the project's earlier work, embracing a more dance-oriented style with a heavy emphasis on synthesizers rather than guitars. The album was entirely written, recorded, performed, and produced by Kevin Parker, who also mixed the music and played all the instruments himself. This solo effort follows his previous album, *Lonerism* (2012), and was developed largely in his home studio in Fremantle. The meticulous attention to detail during the recording process caused a two-month delay in the album's release. **Currents** explores themes of personal transformation, with many critics interpreting it as a reflection on Parker's experiences following a romantic breakup. The album's cover art, featuring a visualization of vortex shedding, complements these themes. The release was supported by singles such as "Let It Happen," "'Cause I'm a Man," "Eventually," and "The Less I Know the Better." It became Tame Impala's most successful album to date, debuting at number one in Australia, number three in the UK, and number four in the US. As of January 2023, it has sold over one million copies in the US. The album received widespread acclaim, appearing on various critics' year-end lists and earning multiple awards, including Best Rock Album and Album of the Year at the 2015 ARIA Music Awards. It also garnered Grammy and J Award nominations. In 2020, Rolling Stone ranked **Currents** 382nd on its list of "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time," and in December 2021, it was listed at number 12 in Rolling Stone Australia's "200 Greatest Australian Albums of All Time."
