"Spooky" is the second studio album by British alternative rock band Lush. It was released on January 27, 1992, through 4AD. Cocteau Twins' member Robin Guthrie produced the album, and his influence created a sound that is often noted for its layering of guitars and dense textures.
The album is described as presenting atmospheric, layered sounds with lyrics encompassing introspection, relationships, and sex. It's the first instance the band indulged in their dream pop sensibilities, a direction they would continue with in their subsequent releases.
"Spooky" managed to reach the Top 10 on the UK Albums Chart, peaking at number seven. Its four singles – "Nothing Natural", "Superblast!", "For Love" and "Downer" – also earned Lush their first solid chart presence in the United States on both alternative and pop charts.
The album received mixed-to-positive reviews, with some critics praising its unique blend of shoegaze and dream pop, while others criticized it for what they saw as overly layered production. Regardless, "Spooky" has since been recognized as a significant release in the shoegaze genre.
