Eurythmics

"Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" is the second studio album by British duo Eurythmics. Released in January 1983, this album proved to be a major breakthrough for the duo, consisting of Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart. The title track "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" was a worldwide hit, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States. The song has since been covered by many artists and remains one of the greatest songs of the 80s. The music video for "Sweet Dreams" broadcasted an image of the androgynous Lennox, with her shaved orange hair and man's suit, that turned her into an international style icon. The album also brought the group's minimal and unique electronic pop to the forefront. Stewart's experimental approach to the synthesizer and Lennox's soulful voice combined to create a sound that was innovative for the era. The album comprises nine other tracks other than the title track, such as "Love is a Stranger" and "I've Got an Angel" which further manifests the duo's trademark synthesized rhythm and cryptic lyrics. The album "Sweet Dreams" is often regarded as Eurythmics' fine synthesis of pop and avant-garde, and it certified their status as one of the most successful and innovative musical acts of the 80s. It is still remembered as a groundbreaking moment in synth-pop history.
