"The Fall" is the fourth studio album by American singer-songwriter Norah Jones, released on November 11, 2009, by Blue Note Records. The album marked a departure from Jones' previous work, featuring a more experimental and stripped-down sound. It debuted at number three on the Billboard 200, selling 180,000 copies in its first week. By August 2012, The Fall had sold over three million copies worldwide.
The album was produced by Jacquire King, and Jones worked with a diverse set of collaborators, including songwriters Ryan Adams and Will Sheff. The album also featured contributions from a range of musicians, such as drummers Joey Waronker, James Gadson, and Marco Giovino; keyboardist James Poyser; and guitarists Marc Ribot, Smokey Hormel, Lyle Workman, and Peter Atanasoff, as well as bassists Frank Howard Swart and Dave Wilder. This diverse group of musicians helped create a more varied sound that contrasted with the jazz and pop influences of her earlier albums.
The album's cover was photographed by Autumn de Wilde, and it represents the more mature and introspective tone of the album. The Fall showcased Jones' continued evolution as an artist, blending elements of country, rock, and folk with her signature style, while exploring new musical directions.
