"8 Mile: Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture" is the official soundtrack album for the 2002 film 8 Mile, featuring various artists and released by Universal Music through Interscope and Shady Records. The album is notable for the hit single "Lose Yourself" by Eminem, who also stars in the film, which draws from his own experiences. The soundtrack debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, selling over 700,000 copies in its first week and eventually becoming the fifth best-selling album in the U.S. for 2002, with sales of 3.4 million copies. It is certified sextuple platinum by the RIAA. In addition to "Lose Yourself," the album includes tracks from artists such as 2Pac, Wu-Tang Clan, and Mobb Deep. The singles include "Lose Yourself" (lead single, released October 28, 2002), "Wanksta" (released November 5, 2002), "8 Mile" (promo single, December 15, 2002), and "Rap Name" by Obie Trice (released October 22, 2002, as part of a special edition). The soundtrack was also released in a clean version, which removed most strong language and explicit content. Despite the edits, some words remained uncensored, creating interesting discrepancies in tracks. The album not only captured the essence of the film but also significantly influenced hip-hop culture during its release.
