Faith No More

"Album of the Year" is the sixth studio album by American rock band Faith No More. Released on June 3, 1997, this album was the final studio album before their breakup in April 1998. However, Faith No More eventually reunited in 2009 and released their seventh studio album, "Sol Invictus," in 2015. "Album of the Year" is characterized by its experimentation with traditional rock, pop, and metal genres, resulting in a unique sound. The album features minimal use of samples and synthesizers in a departure from the band's prior keyboard-heavy sound. The album was recorded in various locations, including bassist Billy Gould's home studio, and was the first album to feature Gould as the main producer. "Album of the Year" was met with mixed reviews from critics but was commercially successful, reaching the Top 10 in several countries. The album features the singles "Ashes to Ashes," "Last Cup of Sorrow," "Stripsearch," and "I Started a Joke," which is a cover of the Bee Gees' song. Themes within the album range from drug addiction to spirituality and existentialism. Its sound is noted to embody a unique variety of moods, extending from aggressive and confrontational to melancholic and introspective. While the album marked the end of an era for the band, it allowed them to showcase their breadth and diversity in the rock genre.
