Muse

"The Resistance" is the fifth studio album by the English rock band Muse, released on 11 September 2009 through Warner Bros. Records and Muse's Helium-3 imprint. The album was self-produced and recorded from September 2008 to May 2009 at Studio Bellini in Lake Como, Italy. It blends rock with orchestral and electronic music, and its lyrics are influenced by politics and other oppressive themes. The album includes a notable three-part, 13-minute symphony piece titled "Exogenesis." Promotion for the album included singles such as "Uprising," "Undisclosed Desires," and "Resistance." The "Exogenesis: Symphony" was released on vinyl for Record Store Day, and the Resistance Tour featured 30 performances. The album received generally positive reviews, with critics appreciating its concept, instrumentation, and Bellamy's vocals, though some felt it was overblown and clichéd. It won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards. The Resistance is Muse's most successful album, having sold more than five million copies worldwide. It topped the charts in 19 countries and reached the top five in the United States and several other nations. The album was certified platinum in both the UK and the US.
