Manic Street Preachers

"Send Away the Tigers" is the eighth studio album by Welsh rock band Manic Street Preachers. It was released in May 2007. The album is perceived as a return to the hard rock sound of their earlier work, after several albums where the group had experimented with a more introspective and polished alternative rock sound. It received a positive response from critics and was a commercial success, debuting at number two on the UK Albums Chart. The album was recorded in Ireland with longtime informal collaborator Dave Eringa and mixed in America by Chris Lord-Alge. The phrase "Send Away the Tigers" comes from an interview with the actor Richard Burton, who said it was his mantra before he stopped drinking. This was seen as thematically relevant, as many of the songs on the album deal with themes of regret, introspection, and newfound maturity. The album cover is a black and white image of actress Richey Edwards, who disappeared on 1st February 1995 and was declared presumed dead in November 2008. The album's songs highlighted mundanity of modern life, ageing, loss, and retrospection while maintaining the band's unique and personal perspective. The title track and "Underdogs" were released as free downloads prior to the album's release. "Your Love Alone Is Not Enough", a duet with Cardigans vocalist Nina Persson, was the album's lead single and reached number two on the UK Singles Chart. Other significant tracks include "Autumnsong", "Indian Summer", and "The Second Great Depression".
