Mazzy Star

"So Tonight That I Might See" is the second studio album by American alternative rock band Mazzy Star, released on September 27, 1993. The album comprises 10 tracks and features the band's signature dreamy, melancholic sound, blending elements of folk, blues, and rock. Following the moderate success of their debut album "She Hangs Brightly", Mazzy Star returned with this ethereal, psychedelic record. It's named after a lyric from the opening track "Fade into You", which became the band's first and biggest mainstream hit, reaching number 44 on the Hot 100 chart and earning a significant amount of airplay on alternative radio and MTV. The album was co-written by band members Hope Sandoval and David Roback, who also produced it. While it didn't initially chart upon its release, the success of "Fade into You" eventually led the album to peak at number 68 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album's other singles "Blue Light" and "Into Dust" are also noteworthy for their blend of moody lyricism and atmospheric instrumental arrangements. "So Tonight That I Might See" is often noted as a definitive album of the 90s shoegaze genre. Its sound, heavily reliant on layers of reverberating guitars and Sandoval's haunting vocals, had a significant influence on many bands in the dream pop and neo-psychedelia scenes that followed. The album continues to receive acclaim decades after its release for its timeless, distinct sound.
