"Today" is an album by American singer Elvis Presley, released on May 7, 1975, by RCA Records. The album marked his last studio album containing really new material as all his later albums would incorporate previously recorded or unreleased tracks. It includes the hit single "T-R-O-U-B-L-E," which was ranked number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100.
"Today" was recorded in RCA's Studio C, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, in March 1975. Presley returned to both the concert stage and recording three years after his last studio album, "Good Times". The album includes a cover of a 1940s pop standard "Green, Green Grass of Home," as well as songs like "I Can Help," "And I Love You So," and "Fairytale."
Presley teamed up with longtime producer Felton Jarvis for the album, who brought in a group of musicians known as 'The Nashville A-Team'. Despite the heavy promotion by RCA, including a one-month tour which saw Presley sell-out all concert himself, the album failed to reach the top 40.
Although "Today" didn't achieve great commercial success during its initial release, it has since become one of Presley's cult classics. The success of the album's single, "T-R-O-U-B-L-E," as well as Presley's immense fan base, helped to secure the album's long-lasting popularity.
The album has been reissued on several occasions with additional bonus tracks and outtakes. Despite the mixed reviews upon its release, in recent years, "Today" has been hailed by some critics as a standout work in Presley's discography.
