"Live 1967" offers a captivating glimpse into the energetic performances of the American pop rock band, the Monkees, during their 1967 United States tour. Released in 1987 by Rhino Records, this live album showcases recordings from shows in Seattle, Portland, and Spokane, capturing the band at the height of their popularity.
The album features spirited performances by the Monkees themselves, with each member showcasing their vocal and instrumental talents on stage. Additionally, the "solo spots" for each member spotlight music by the opening act, the Sundowners, adding variety and depth to the live experience.
In 2001, Rhino Handmade treated fans to a special limited edition CD titled "Summer 1967: The Complete U.S. Concert Recordings," which compiled all recordings from these shows, along with additional material from a date in Mobile, Alabama.
Notably, during these tour dates, Davy Jones and Kim Capli of the Sundowners collaborated on the recording of "Hard to Believe" at a local studio. This track would later find its way onto the Monkees' album "Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, & Jones, Ltd." (1967), showcasing the dynamic musical partnerships forged during this vibrant period of the band's history.
"Live 1967" stands as a testament to the Monkees' enduring appeal and their ability to captivate audiences with their infectious blend of pop rock melodies and charismatic stage presence.
