The Monkees

"The Monkees Greatest Hits" compilation album, released in 1976 by Arista Records, was a significant release for the band during a period of renewed popularity. As the Monkees' initial success waned in the late 1960s, their earlier greatest hits collections had limited availability. However, with their TV series finding a new audience through syndication in the mid-1970s, demand grew for a comprehensive hits collection. The album featured a mix of hit singles and popular album tracks from their Colgems Records era, packaged with a cover showcasing the group and including stills from their television show. Notably, it included a stereo version of "Listen to the Band," a track not originally featured on the series but later incorporated into reruns. Upon its release, "The Monkees Greatest Hits" became a commercial success, remaining in print through the 1980s and later reissued in cassette and compact disc formats. Despite being deleted when Rhino Records reissued the Monkees catalog in 1995, the album made a return in vinyl format in early 2019, underscoring its enduring appeal among fans.
