Stone Temple Pilots

"Shangri-La Dee Da" is the fifth studio album by Stone Temple Pilots, released on June 19, 2001, through Atlantic Records. Produced by Brendan O'Brien, who had worked with the band on their previous albums, the album was recorded at a Malibu villa during the winter and spring of 2001. Initially conceived as a double album, "Shangri-La Dee Da" ultimately featured thirteen tracks that showcased a range of musical styles. The album spans from heavy, distorted rock songs to psychedelic-influenced tracks and acoustic ballads, reflecting the band's diverse musical interests and influences. Two singles were released from the album: "Days of the Week" and "Hollywood Bitch." "Days of the Week" particularly gained traction on rock radio, becoming a notable hit for the band. Commercially, while "Shangri-La Dee Da" did not match the sales figures of its predecessors, it still performed well, reaching the top ten in the US and the top five in Canada. It was certified Gold in both countries, indicating strong sales and reception among fans. Critically, the album received positive reviews, with many critics praising its musical variety and the band's ability to explore different moods and styles. Despite the positive reception, "Shangri-La Dee Da" marked the end of an era for Stone Temple Pilots, as it was their final album before their breakup in 2003. To support the album, Stone Temple Pilots embarked on a tour throughout 2001, including joining The Family Values Tour alongside bands like Linkin Park later that year. The album remains a testament to the band's versatility and creativity during their tenure together.
