"The Other Side of Make-Believe" is the seventh studio album by American rock band Interpol, released on July 15, 2022, via Matador Records. Produced by Mark “Flood” Ellis and mixed by Alan Moulder, it was recorded in London from September 2021 to January 2022. Written during the COVID-19 pandemic, it was the band’s first album composed remotely, with members working separately in Edinburgh, Spain, and Georgia before reuniting in the Catskills for further writing and rehearsals. The album has a more uplifting tone than Interpol’s usual style, according to singer Paul Banks.
Four singles promoted the release: “Toni,” “Something Changed,” “Fables,” and “Gran Hotel,” each accompanied by videos.
Critically, the album received generally positive reviews, earning a score of 72/100 on Metacritic, with praise from outlets like Clash and Sputnikmusic, though some mixed opinions appeared from others such as Pitchfork.
