New Order

"Substance" (also known as Substance 1987) is a seminal compilation album by the English alternative dance band New Order, released in August 1987 by Factory Records. The album is a comprehensive collection of the band’s 12-inch singles and their respective B-sides up to that point, showcasing the breadth of their work in the dance and electronic genres. In addition to compiling existing singles, Substance features the then-newly released non-album single True Faith, its B-side 1963, and updated versions of the tracks Temptation and Confusion. This compilation captures New Order's evolution and highlights their significant contributions to the dance music scene. The album achieved substantial commercial success, selling over one million copies, and remains one of New Order's most popular and critically acclaimed releases. It stands as a companion to a similar compilation by New Order's predecessor band, Joy Division, also titled Substance.
