Front 242

"Pulse" is an album by the Belgian electronic band, Front 242. Released in 2003, the album marked a significant departure from the band's earlier works, flaunting a more ambient and low-key approach. It was Front 242's first studio album in a decade, following "05:22:09:12 Off" in 1993. As a significant shift in style, "Pulse" steers clear of dance floor beats and throbbing basslines that characterized their early sound, and instead embraces minimalism. The songs in this album are more streamlined and polished, with an intense focus on careful sound construction. The album features 8 tracks, including tracks like Seq666, a range of songs denoted 'P', which continues Front 242's fondness for alphanumeric song titles. It's worth mentioning that instead of using a more explicit lyrics, this album is instrumental and uses an experimental electronic beat. The band comprises of Patrick Codenys who handles programming and keyboards, vocalist Jean-Luc De Meyer, Richard JK on vocals and additional programming and Daniel B on programming and keyboards. The band is considered a pioneer in the use of electronic instruments and has played a significant role in shaping the sound of the electronic and industrial genre. Despite the decade-long silence before the release of "Pulse", the album showcases that Front 242 had not lost their power and ability to innovate within the electronic music scene. The band’s experiment with ambient was seen as a daring move, but was generally well received.
