"Midnite Vultures" is the seventh studio album by American musician Beck, released on November 16, 1999. While it didn't match the massive success of his previous album Odelay, it was still commercially successful and received critical acclaim. The album is notable for its eclectic mix of styles, continuing Beck's trend of blending various genres. Working titles for the album included Zatyricon and I Can Smell the V.D. in the Club Tonight.
Several tracks on the album were inspired by other artists, such as "Get Real Paid" (influenced by Kraftwerk), "Milk & Honey" (echoing Grandmaster Flash's "The Message"), and "Debra" (inspired by Prince and David Bowie).
Midnite Vultures peaked at number 34 in the U.S., where it went gold, and reached number 19 in the UK. It sold 743,000 copies in the U.S. by 2008. Beck promoted the album with performances, including at the first Coachella festival in 1999. He also appeared on several TV shows, including Saturday Night Live.
The album's first 500,000 copies were released in a special digipak, and a segment of "Beautiful Way" was included as a demo song for Windows Media Player 7. The Vultures tour, which supported the album, was Beck’s last with DJ Swamp, a member of his band since 1997.
