The Stranglers

"Stranglers in the Night" is the 11th studio album by British rock band The Stranglers. Released on 07 September 1992, it marks a significant sea change in the band's history. The album kick-started a renaissance for The Stranglers, forging a new direction for their music with a revised line-up. After the departure of long-term band member Hugh Cornwell in 1990, many predicted the demise of The Stranglers. However, they came back stronger, introducing John Ellis on guitar and vocals, and Paul Roberts as the lead singer. Ellis had previously been a band member of The Vibrators and had periodically played as a touring guitarist for The Stranglers since 1990, while Roberts was a new addition. "Stranglers in the Night" was well received by critics and fans alike. Its distinctive blend of punk, rock, and other music genres demonstrated the band's musical evolution while also retaining some of their signature sound. The album's notable tracks include the UK top 40 hit single 'Always the Sun', which remains one of the band's biggest hits. "Stranglers in the Night" was released on the band's independent record label, Psycho, making this the first release where the band had full artistic and financial control. The freedom this afforded the group was clearly beneficial, as the album reinvigorated the Stranglers' career, achieving a chart position of number 33 in the UK. The band followed the album release with an extensive tour, encompassing Europe, Britain, and the Americas, which further boosted their revival.
