The Stranglers

"No More Heroes" is the second studio album by English new wave band The Stranglers, released on September 23, 1977. Following their debut album, Rattus Norvegicus, which had gained significant attention, No More Heroes continued to build on the band's distinctive sound. The album was released through United Artists in most regions and A&M in the United States. The record features a mix of punk rock and new wave influences, showcasing the band's signature dark lyrics and melodic hooks. Key tracks include the title song "No More Heroes" and "Duchess," both of which contributed to the album's success. The album received positive reviews for its bold sound and lyrical depth, solidifying The Stranglers' place in the late 1970s music scene. No More Heroes was produced by Martin Rushent and features a mix of new material alongside four tracks originally recorded during the sessions for Rattus Norvegicus: "Something Better Change," "Bitching," "Peasant in the Big Shitty," and "School Mam." The album cover is striking, featuring a photo of a wreath on a coffin, adorned with the tails of several rats, which have become the band's trademark. The brass plaque on the cover was engraved by Steven Stapleton of Nurse with Wound. From the album, two singles were released: the title track "No More Heroes," and a double A-side featuring "Something Better Change" along with the non-album track "Straighten Out." Both singles contributed to the album's legacy and helped solidify The Stranglers' influence in the punk and new wave scenes.
