Gary Numan

"Savage (Songs from a Broken World)" is the eighteenth solo studio album by English musician Gary Numan, released on September 15, 2017, by BMG and The End. The album was first announced as part of a fan-backed Pledge Music Campaign on November 12, 2015. On November 9, 2018, a follow-up EP titled The Fallen was released. The EP features similar artwork to Savage and was intended to complement the album. The album reached No. 2 in the UK Top 40 album charts, marking Numan's sixth Top 10 album and his first since 1982. It was his highest-charting album outside of his number-one albums Replicas, The Pleasure Principle, and Telekon from 1979 and 1980, surpassing the 1981 album Dance, which reached No. 3. Savage also became his first album since Telekon to chart in multiple countries. Savage (Songs from a Broken World) is a concept album by Gary Numan that explores a dystopian future where Western and Eastern cultures merge in a desertified world caused by global warming. Numan described the album's themes as focusing on the harsh realities of survival in such a bleak environment. The songs depict extreme actions people take to endure the harsh conditions, the guilt and longing for forgiveness that accompany these actions, and the resurgence of religion driven by remnants of an old religious book. The narrative portrays a descent into chaos and desperation as society grapples with its new reality.
