"If on a Winter's Night..." is the ninth studio album by British musician Sting, released on October 26, 2009, in most countries, October 27 in the U.S., and November 2 in the U.K. The album features a collection of Christmas and winter-themed songs, primarily traditional folk songs, madrigals, and religious hymns from various centuries. It showcases contributions from a diverse array of musicians across jazz, folk, and classical genres.
The album was made available in multiple formats, including a vinyl LP, standard CD, a limited edition CD with a making-of DVD titled The Genesis of 'If on a Winter's Night...' in Six Chapters, and various import editions, such as a notable Japanese version. The limited edition and Amazon exclusive versions include bonus tracks, while the Japanese edition features an additional song, "The Coventry Carol." Notably, the album also includes a reworking of Sting's earlier song "The Hounds of Winter."
The title draws inspiration from Italo Calvino's novel If on a winter's night a traveler.
