The Sisters Of Mercy

"Alice" is a song by the British rock band The Sisters of Mercy, written by the band's vocalist Andrew Eldritch. It was originally released as a non-album single on 21 November 1982 through the band's own label, Merciful Release. The song was re-released in March 1983 as part of a 12" EP. The recording of "Alice" took place after a week of pre-production at Andrew Eldritch's flat in Leeds. Four tracks were then recorded over two weekends at Kenny Giles's studio in Bridlington, with producer John Ashton of the Psychedelic Furs. The songs recorded during this session included "Alice," "Floorshow," a cover of the Stooges' "1969," and the unreleased track "Good Things." These same songs had previously been recorded for a BBC radio session in August 1982. The track "Alice" was paired with "Floorshow" and released as the band's third 7" single on 21 November 1982. In March 1983, the band released the Alice EP, which included two additional tracks—"1969" and a new recording titled "Phantom." The 12" EP was released by Merciful Release and was later distributed in the United States by Brain Eater Records, a label based in New York. The Alice EP was never released as a stand-alone CD but was included in the Some Girls Wander by Mistake compilation, which collected early works by the band.
