The Very Best of The Human League is a compilation album by the British synth-pop band, The Human League. It was originally released in August 2003 by Virgin Records. This album primarily serves as a retrospective of the band's musical career from 1978 to 2003, including some of their biggest hits and popular album tracks.
The Human League, hailing from Sheffield, England, were among the earliest and most successful bands in the synth-pop and New Wave genres. The band was formed in 1977 and consisted of several members, with vocalists Philip Oakey, Joanne Catherall, and Susan Ann Sulley serving as the most enduring lineup.
Concerning the tracks in this album, it has a substantial collection of 19 songs including internationally renowned hits such as "Don't You Want Me", "Love Action (I Believe in Love)", "Mirror Man", and "Human", among others. These songs help illustrate The Human League's evolution from their experimental beginnings to their more polished, pop-friendly sound in the 1980s and beyond.
The Very Best of The Human League, apart from its CD release, was also issued with a bonus DVD which featured promotional videos of the band. In terms of critical reception, the album was well-received and managed to perform well in the charts, reaching number 20 in the UK Albums Chart. Not only did it appeal to long-time fans of the band, but it also acted as an ideal entry point for new listeners to explore The Human League's influential body of work.
