Elton John

"Victim of Love" is an album by Elton John, released in 1979. Unique in Elton John's discography, the album stands out as having no substantial songwriting input from Elton John himself. The entirety of the album's content was written and produced by Pete Bellotte, while lyrics were penned by Sylvester Levay and Jerry Rix. The album marked a departure from Elton John's usual sound, with the artist foraying into the disco genre which was in its peak popularity at the time. The album has seven tracks, opening with the almost 10-minute long "Johnny B. Goode" and closing with "Return to Paradise". However, despite its experimental nature, the album received mixed reviews from both critics and fans, and is often considered as one of the less successful entries in Elton John's extensive discography. Commercially, it did not fare well, failing to chart in the UK and peaking at number 35 in the US, making it one of his least successful albums of the 1970s. Furthermore, Elton John has rarely, if ever, performed any songs from this album live. Despite its relative lack of success, "Victim of Love" remains a key part of Elton John's musical journey, showcasing a risk-taking and adventurous spirit often found in his career.
