"Infinite" is the 20th studio album by English rock band Deep Purple. Released on April 7, 2017, it showcases a fresh wave of creativity from this legendary ensemble. The album was produced by the highly acclaimed Bob Ezrin who has contributed his production expertise to the band's previous album "NOW What?!" which was a huge commercial success.
Serving as a follow-up to "NOW What?!", "Infinite" includes 10 original tracks expressing the band's diverse musicality. Deep Purple's lineup -- Ian Paice (drums), Roger Glover (bass), Ian Gillan (vocals), Steve Morse (guitar), and Don Airey (keyboards) -- masterfully exhibits their musical synergy in this album.
The promotional single "Time for Bedlam" was released ahead of the album in December 2016. The album also contains a cover of "Roadhouse Blues" by the Doors. Critics have praised "Infinite" for its energetic riffs, dynamic rhythms, and soaring vocals, all of which highlight the endurance and continual innovation of the band. Despite it being released nearly five decades after the band's formation, "Infinite" is a testament to Deep Purple's enduring influence and musical prowess.
"Infinite" achieved commercial success around the globe, peaking at number 6 on the UK Albums Chart and reaching top 10 in several other countries. The album was ultimately certified Gold in Germany, further proving the enduring popularity of Deep Purple. The release of the album was followed by "The Long Goodbye Tour", during which the band suggested that this might be their final large-scale tour, adding to the significance of "Infinite" in the discography of Deep Purple.
